Making a Walnut Dovetail Desk
RojasCarpentry
First off, a huge thank you goes to my Uncle Ken for ordering this desk. I drove from NY down to TN to deliver it and had a great 2021 Memorial day weekend with the family on the lake.
Another thank you goes out to Total Boat for providing the epoxy used in this project to fill the gouges in the walnut.
This opportunity allowed me second chance at improving my outcome when making the dovetail desk from the first one. Using my Ryoba Suizan Japanese pull saw really boosted up the accuracy of my dovetails along with the Jonathan Katz Moses dovetail jig.
I used Rubio Monocoat in Pure to finish this desk and Clearstyle adjustable feet in order to level the desk out.
I had called 10 different lumber suppliers to find 3” thick Black Walnut that was kiln dried with enough in stock to make the entire desk in one go. Once it was planed it was approximately 2.5” thick finished product all around. The wood was found at Condon Lumber in Stormville NY.
