What I am about to say will be labelled as 'Something Controversial', but I'm no stranger to controversy.

I bet that got your attention. Listen, it might be controversial ... but it is true. We are all selfish. Yes, I said it.

The first step is in acknowledging it. The sooner we admit it, the quicker we can move on to behaving in a less selfish manner.

Why is being selfish not really that bad? It's the way we are usually programmed, and from birth.

I know, people tell us that we should not to be selfish; learn to play well with others; think of others first; don't be selfish! Then they behave in a selfish manner regardless.

By nature, we are self-centred. This, of course, ensures survival. Self-preservation isn't always a bad thing. If we don't survive, we are of no use to anybody else. We need to look after ourselves so we can be of some good to other people.
