The 7th Guest - Wii U
Riot Retro Gaming
I managed to get this running on Wii U with a hell of a lot of effort, but it's still running bad.
Is the Wii U just incapable of powering this type of emulated game, or am I missing something?
You install the game with Disc 2, but it then needs Disc 1 to run... here's how I did it.
I first created the 'Autoexec.bat' that runs as DOSBOX starts, mounts both D and E cd drives with both discs in. It then runs 'Install.bat' and then you proceed to just hit the numeric keypad 'Enter' key until the install goes back to DOSBOX. It will then delete the 'Groovie.ini' it made on install and copy over my modified one which tells it to look at the other drive with Disc 1 installed.
Retroarch/DOSBOX would only allow me to type numbers & letters on the USB keyboard if 'Num Lock' was on. I then typed 'T7G' to start the game by holding:
Alt-116 Alt-55 Alt-103
And then hitting the numeric keypad 'Enter' key.
The Autoexec.bat that I created (make sure both ISOs are in the root folder where C: mounts on DOSBOX starts:
@echo off imgmount d "t7g_2.iso" -t iso imgmount e "t7g_1.iso" -t iso d: install del c:\ID\T7G\groovie.ini copy c:\ID\groovie_.ini c:\ID\T7G ren c:\ID\T7G\groovie_.ini groovie.ini c:\ID\T7G\T7G.BAT
You will need to run install everytime for some reason as it comes up with an odd error about the soundcard is not present (this is another issue that needs addressing), I can try something soon so you do not have to run install everytime - I will update this if I can find a workaround.
The groovie.ini I altered to groovie_.ini only contains the following changed lines, make sure you have this altered groovie_.ini in the root folder too:
ProgDir=C:\id\t7g
DataDir=E:\t7g\
Please get in touch if you can speed this baby up somehow, I have altered EVERY setting possible. Also the keyboard needs all keys recognised in DOSBOX/Retroarch. I have no idea why this would not be supported. The keyboard does work in Retroarch before the game runs however.
Please help, this would be a great thing to get going and I'm sure this would help many more Wii U & DOSBOX retro gamers!
