Why Core Values are Important

What do you stand for? Ever ask yourself that question? Have you ever been asked that question?

Whether you call them core values, guiding principles, or something else. These are what makes you, you. If you are known for being honest then you probably have a core value of honesty or truthfulness. If you are a positive person then positive energy could very well be a core value for you to live by.

Core values also are known as guiding principles. That is when you are faced with a moral question you will use your values to make your decision. If you are honest you will tell the truth. If you are hard working you won't sluff off work to go hang out at the bar. Driven people won't stop till they are done with the project. See how that works?

Leaders who know their core values are seen to have integrity. They are respected for the consistency of their decisions. Yet if you don't follow your core value your credibility is harmed and that wall of trust comes tumbling down. It takes a long time to rebuild that foundation. So you see why core values are important. People need them in their lives and are often lost if they don't have a set of guiding values to live by.
