(291) Gainsborough Front Door Lock | Handles Replaced | what’s going on with the latch?

More questions. This latch just doesn’t want to enter the strike plate like it should. Is it the weather strip causing the issue or is it the hole for the strike? Is the latch supposed to behave like this? All seems a bit loose to me. Does the strike hole need more taken off it or does the strike just need an adjustment. To me it feels like something inside the lock mechanism is slipping like a clutch. I don't know enough about these locks to diagnose the issues myself. These are the new questions about this lock that I am asking our local locksmith Paul Springett of Out and About Locksmiths. Any help you can give me Paul in answering these questions is greatly appreciated.
