A quick video of an example of evaluating an integral using the technique of “Partial Fraction Decomposition”, followed by “U-Substitution”.
When an integral has a rational expression that has no root like this one, I strongly recommend starting with factoring the expression. If a rational expression has a square root, then try to rewrite the radicand—the expression underneath/inside the radical sign—into a difference of two squares.
