Becoming a DevRel Superstar: My DevRel Uni Review
Patrick Skinner
In this video, I share my experience with DevRel Uni, a 4-week certifying course that teaches the skills needed to excel in the Developer Relations (DevRel) field. As a software engineer, I was drawn to the role of DevRel because it involves both technical and interpersonal skills. I wanted to learn how to communicate complex technical information to different audiences and generate never-ending content ideas to showcase products.
The course covers all the fundamental aspects of DevRel, from understanding the position and the strategies to stay on top of the rapidly changing business landscape to documentation strategy, KPIs and metrics, and event strategies. The mentors for each week are industry leaders in DevRel and provide invaluable insights into their respective areas of expertise.
The coursework revolves around a specific open-source project of each participant's choice, encouraging creativity and engagement with the wider tech community. Many students were even directly connected to the DevRel teams of the protocols they had chosen, leading to potential job placements within DevRel teams.
Overall, the experience was 10/10 stars, and participants quickly became connected with each other, still communicating actively despite the program being done. If you're looking for a position that truly feels right for you, DevRel might be it. Signups for the 2nd Cohort of DevRel Uni are now open, so be sure to sign up quickly as spots fill up fast!
