How2: Make the most efficient DIY Solar Water Heater
OpenSourceLowTech
This panel can reach up to 80C / 180F, cycles about 500 liters per 24 hours, is a lot stronger and more robust than an evacuated glass tube system, and costs about ten to twenty times less.
Can be built by one person in under a day with basic hand tools from off the shelf materials.
The cost of this build was about US$110, but in sunnier areas one half the size should be enough for an average house, and with a decent metal supplier this panel can be as cheap as $50. Attached to an off-grid system, it would provide a good compliment to photovoltaic panels and wind or water turbines. Or as a pre-heater for an existing gas or electric hot water system.
