How to Determine Whether a Number is a Solution to an Equation | 2x-5=-13 | Minute Math

In this video we learn how to determine whether a number is a solution to an equation. We determine whether each of the following is a solution to the equation 2x-5=-13, x=4, x=-4, x=-9.

The steps we followed are:

1. Substitute the number for the variable in the equation.
2. Simplify the expressions on both sides of the equation.
3. Determine whether the resulting equation is true. 3a) If it is true, the number is a solution. 3b) If it is not true, the number is not a solution.
