Calculating Total Distance Traveled Using the Coordinate Plane
Minute Math
In this video, we calculate the total distance traveled by a delivery truck using the coordinate plane. The truck starts at the origin (0, 0), moves to (0, 7), and then to (0, -5). By calculating the vertical distances, we find that the truck covers 7 units in the first segment and 12 units in the second, for a total distance of 19 units. This lesson aligns with Common Core Standard 6.NS.C.8, which focuses on solving real-world problems by graphing points and calculating distances on the coordinate plane. Perfect for students learning to track distances using coordinates!
