This video is a continuation from the previous one making the Color Hexagon Spiral.
Using the Color Hexagon Spiral test pattern I continue the video here going directly into how to use the Difference Blending mode with a solid color fill layer in Photoshop and then using the Black & White adjustment layer set to Maximum White converts the color difference result into a greyscale gradient for making a mask selection.
I teach a bit more of how the Color Range tool still has some powerful ways of making selections, neither of them are really "better" or "worse" , it depends on what colors and ranges you are selecting.
The Difference Blending Mode is one of the best ways to start understanding how the blend modes are mathematical operations of RGB information from one layer to another layer in Photoshop. This allows me to start showing the way I use the Difference Blend Mode in expanding into other color mask selections. In the following videos I will teach how I created the HCWB Custom Color Range action by following some of these logical steps and performing them on the color component divisions such as Hue, Chroma, Whiteness, Blackness.
I am working on an update to the HCWB Custom Color Range action and will show the behind-the-scenes way in which I test and develop new methods like this. Perhaps we can achieve even more dimensions of color selection and control by going into the Tints, Shades, Greys, and Midtones?
