Rothbard's "America's Great Depression," Chapter Nine
The Marginal Non-Hermit
Chapter nine covers the ups and downs of 1930. After the massive inflationary spending in late 1929, things seemed to be getting better. Unfortunately, what these policies had actually done was paper over malinvestments and make them bigger, leading to worsening conditions by the end of the year. Production lost pace with consumption and the press for public works became incredibly powerful.
