Tiny Science Burning Candle Timelapse Photography – Make Science Fun
Make Science Fun
Fascinating footage of burning candles using time lapse photography. I came close to burning the lab down in this episode when I stupidly left the candle burning unattended!
Many people think that the most important part of a candle is the wick, and that the wax is there to support the wick. However, the heat from the wick, melts the wax, which then travels up the wick and vaporises. These burning vapours produce the flame.

In this Real Lego. Real Science. Real Good Episode, Jacob and Sam timelapse photograph a few different types of candles burning.
It becomes very clear that it is not the wick that provides the energy, but rather the wax from the candle.
