A Close Encounter with Vice President Sara Duterte During Independence Day Celebrations in Davao

On June 12, Philippine Independence Day, I had an interesting and unexpected experience. My apartment is near the city hall of Davao, and early in the morning, I went out for my usual walk. As I stepped outside, I noticed an unusual amount of activity.
There were two military tankers parked just below my block, along with several other police and military vehicles scattered around the area.
Every corner of the city hall was barricaded, signaling that something significant was happening. Curious, I continued my walk and heard loud sounds coming from the huge plaza in front of the city hall building around 9 AM.
It seemed like an event was underway, so I decided to check it out. To my surprise, it was a ceremony for Philippine Independence Day. I rushed back to the apartment, changed my clothes to a more decent one, grabbed my camera, and went back to the plaza.
This was my first time seeing the Vice President up close. Armed with my camera, I approached the area. Although I only had my Singapore Identity card, the guard at the entrance allowed me to pass through without any trouble. I made sure to keep my distance, not wanting to disturb the Philippine press or media, who seemed like paparazzi to me.
As the Vice President moved through the crowd, meeting other officials, I managed to take a few snapshots. It was an exciting experience, seeing such a high-profile figure and being part of a significant national celebration. I'll always remember the buzz of the crowd, the security, and the thrill of capturing a moment in history with my camera.
