Aadhaar is the digital identity system of the Indian government. Almost all Indian citizens enrolled for Aadhaar and provided their biometric data.

Most Indians linked their Aadhaar with their bank accounts. The problem came because the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) feature is active by default.

Citizens can withdraw cash from their bank accounts using AEPS and fingerprints. Fraudsters and criminals can also withdraw cash using AEPS and fingerprint spoofs.

The Kolkata Police Department has very aptly requested to mask biometric data on Aadhaar. Whether the government agrees, the biometrics data should be masked or removed from the Aadhaar database immediately.
