Kyle Buys, Builds, and Tests a Framework Laptop.
Kyle Clements
I had been looking for a small 13"ish laptop for the last few years, and I finally found something that works for me - the Framework Laptop DIY Edition.
I went with the lowest spec processor, the i5, 1135G7.
Assembly is quicker and easier than building a desktop PC.
For day-to-day stuff, the framework performs better than my decade old desktop.
For performing a final render, the old desktop still runs about 1/5th faster - but uses 8X the electricity to do that work.
I was looking for something with great I/O for data wrangling, powerful enough to drop compressed video files in a timeline for a quick rough edit, and record some notes before I forget. I wanted something with a great monitor, and was powerful enough so I could edit higher res photos on the go. And I wanted something easily repairable because I can be rough on my gear.
Note: This is NOT a sponsored video. I bought this myself at full price (well, the hard drive was on sale for 7% off at the time I bought it...) The company doesn't know about me.
