Today we look at network analyzer calibration.
We all know you have to do it, but it takes time. What if you could do precision calibration much faster?
We all learned about network analyzer calibration in college—probably using a mechanical calibration kit like this one.
Mechanical calibration kits typically contain individual standards to characterize systematic errors—open, load, short and thru. These are connected and disconnected in a specific sequence to calibrate the test set up and remove errors.
A full 2-Port calibration process requires six connections — three standards at each test port. The second step is the THRU where the two test ports are connected to each other. All of this requires a lot of connecting and disconnecting!
Today, there is an alternative to traditional mechanical cal. It’s called electronic calibration—or Ecal.
An Ecal module is a solid-state calibration module which makes two-port calibration fast, easy, and less prone to operator errors. It has a simple set up and you get excellent accuracy without spending a bunch of time to calibrate.
