Part 3: Attenuators and Preamps Link coming soon!
Part 4: Signal Offsets and Filters Link coming soon!
Part 5: Probing Link coming soon!
Mike starts this section of the presentation by highlighting the five requirements of an oscilloscope front end.
First, a front end has to scale the input signal to the input range of the analog to digital converter (ADC). Second, the oscilloscope front end has to provide offset subtraction. Third, it must handle impedance conversion between the signal input and the oscilloscope ADC. Next, it must provide oscilloscope hardware filter options. Finally, it needs to provide oscilloscope trigger filtering and trigger comparators.
Second, he looks at the different specs and characteristics of an ADC. Range, bits of resolution (number of bits), number of codes, resolution, and sample rate.
Finally, he discusses the role of preamps and attenuators in signal scaling for ADCs. Stay tuned for part 3, when Mike discusses the specifics of oscilloscope attenuator and oscilloscope preamp design.
