Determining Oscilloscope Measurement Quality - Scopes University - (S1E4)

Learn which specs you should care about most! Click to subscribe: http://bit.ly/Scopes_Sub
Have you ever been confused by a datasheet and wondered which specs you should actually care about? In this video, we decipher the three key specifications you should look at – ADC bits, system ENOB, and noise floor. We’ll find out what each of these tell you about your oscilloscope and which is most meaningful in determining the quality of measurements you’re able to make.
First, we’ll discuss ADC bits and how those tell you the max possible resolution of the ADC, but not the resolution of the oscilloscope.
Next, we’ll gain familiarity with the importance of looking at the entire system, then reveal that the system ENOB is the best spec to understand the resolution of the oscilloscope.
Third, we’ll learn how to use histograms to measure the noise floor, which is another good indication of the quality of measurements provided by the oscilloscope.
Tune in for future Scopes University episodes covering more oscilloscope capabilities to see how you can test more efficiently!

The mixed signal oscilloscope we used: http://www.keysight.com/en/pcx-x205213/infiniium-s-series-oscilloscopes?cc=US&lc=eng (The Keysight Infiniium S-Series Oscilloscope)
The S-Series allows you to see the truest representation of your signal with the industry’s best signal integrity: 10-bit ADC, low noise front end, superior time base, signal processing in hardware, and responsive deep memory.
Scopes University is hosted by Erin East and Melissa Spencer. The video series covers when and how to use different applications and capabilities of the InfiniiVision and Infiniium oscilloscopes. You’ll gain familiarity with features that will help you save time in your measurement, further your analysis, and deepen your insight.
