I have some reservations about pushing networking because: I used to get really discouraged early in my career when people would tell me to network. I really wasn't comfortable with the idea of socializing with people in general, let alone purely for the sake of personal gain/employment. I know I shouldn't look at it like that, but it's just one of my shortcomings.

Early in my career I kind of decided that I was going to "make it" without networking, and because of this, I tend to shill personal development and skills over social networking, but I know they both pretty important.

Next I'm going to talk about how I approach people and how I like to be approached.

For me, it's not often I will just reach out to someone cold-call style, but I've done it before. I assume the person is really busy, so I usually do like a SUPER quick introduction and ask really specific questions, one at a time.
