Chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer and his Icelandic nurse, Bryndis, have a discussion about chess, romance, and lavender.
The Scene (in acting class): It was a joy to work with Katie O'Brien, a force of nature in the acting world. Thank you Katie!
"Bobby and Bryndís" is now a full-length play. It concerns chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer's last years in Iceland. The video above is the first scene of that play. This scene was workshopped once and only once in Gary Imhoff's Professional Artists acting class on September 9, 2013, with me as Bobby Fischer and Katie O'Brien as Bryndís. I didn't do Bobby's Brooklyn accent: I was too involved in trying to remember the lines. :)
The first part of the scene above has since been REWRITTEN to be more closely aligned with the facts of Bobby's dealings with various governments, especially the United States.
The Icelandic dialogue in the scene was the best I could do using Google Translator. In the final play, all Icelandic has been beautifully translated by an Iceland native, Sigríður Kolbrún Kristinsdóttir.
I hope you enjoy the scene.
