6th Grade Math 8.1c, Using Benchmarks & Proportional Reasoning With Percents
JoAnn's School
A benchmark is a familiar number that is used as a point of reference. We can use certain benchmark percents to write other percents and to estimate fractions. We use a double number line to show equivalent percentages and fractions. We can write a ratio as an equivalent fraction. Then, write the equivalent fraction with 100 as its denominator, and change the fraction to a percent. We write three ratios as percentages from least to greatest. We see how a fraction greater than 1 will be a percent that is greater than 100%.
