4th Grade Math 5.5 PART 2, Prime & Composite Numbers, Sieve of Eratosthenes
JoAnn's School
PART 2 of lesson 5.5. We now know that a prime number is a whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself. A composite number is a whole number greater than 1 that has more than two factors. Eratosthenes of Cyrene was a Greek mathematician who lived more than 2,000 years ago. He invented a method of finding prime numbers, which is now called the Sieve of Eratosthenes. This is a step-by-step explanation of how to use a 100 chart to cross out or shade in all the numbers that are composite or not prime. You can find a 100 chart in the Joann's School Facebook page image section to print, you can find one online on your own, or you can make a 100 chart.
