We are all dreamers, but how many of us take our dreams and live to fulfill them? Bill Ziegler, also known as Wild Bill, took his dreams and turned them into a reality….his own reality, but along the way, he captured the hearts, interest and imagination of generations of New Englanders. It was the spring of 1983 when one man’s dream began to blossom. It began as a small gift shop on Main St and over decades of dedication, drive and ingenuity mixed with a heaping helping of whimsy and a knack for finding a treasure trove of absolutely nothing you need, but everything you ever wanted, it became an icon of Connecticut destinations and a place that would live on in infamy. Sadly, Wild Bill passed away in April of 2017, but his presence can be felt throughout his beloved property and his dream will remain in the hearts of so many. Join us and one of our very favorite explorers, Mr. Fables for a journey into nostalgia….an opportunity to spark your own inspiration and fuel the fire to live your own dreams. We are only given so much time on this beautiful earth of ours….never waste a minute and stay…forever strange! From the larger than life pop art adorning the outer façade of the now vacant building, to the Burtonesque Haunted House that sits proudly behind the parking lot, to the small clues of retro amazement scattered throughout the property, the memory and life’s work of one of Connecticut’s most intriguing men remains. We had the pleasure of meeting Wild Bill many times, as this location was always one of our very favorite places to go. His friendly smile, welcoming demeanor and love for each and every item in his store, left us coming back again and again for more.
As this location is no longer open and has a high level of security protecting its walls, we feel honored to have been given the opportunity to explore and document the wonderment left behind. We wish to thank Wild Bill’s family for their permission to visit this location and to tell the story of their father’s dream. Wild Bill’s imagination and extreme love for collectibles and vintage items lives on in Manchester, Ct. If you are in the area, stop by Fool’s Paradise and grab your own piece of nostalgia!!
