Let Them Eat Yellowcake: Iran Gives Enemies Another Excuse to Bomb Them

Iran has provided the United States and Israel with another excuse to attack -- the country has announced it will now produce yellowcake. The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Fereydoun Abbasim said on Wednesday Iran has installed a new generation centrifuges at the Natanz facility.

Neocon lies about Niger yellowcake led in part to the demise of Saddam Hussein.Yellowcake, also known as urania, is a concentrated powder produced through processing uranium ore. It is used in the preparation of uranium fuel for nuclear reactors.

In Bush's 2003 SOTU, he made the now notorious "sixteen words" statement that Saddam Hussein had obtained yellowcake from Niger and was secretly working on the development of a nuclear weapon.

In fact, Iraq did not have a nuclear program and Bush's statement was a lie based on a crude forgery originating with Italian military intelligence and then hyped by the Bush neocons as one of several pretexts to invade the country -- in other words a war crime little different than the Nazis' Gleiwitz false flag incident that kicked off the Second World War and resulted in the slaughter of over 60 million people.

More than a year after the invasion, in October of 2004, the CIA admitted that Hussein did not have a stockpile of illicit weapons, including nuclear weapons. The Iraq Survey Group report revealed that Iraq's WMD program was essentially destroyed in 1991 and Saddam ended Iraq's nuclear program after the 1991 Gulf War.

In September of 2002, months before the invasion, I wrote that Saddam received the materials for his WMD program from U.S. and European corporations. Donald Rumsfeld traveled to Iraq and made sure Saddam Hussein received whatever he needed to fight his war against Iran. In 1982, Reagan "legalized" direct military assistance to Iraq. This resulted in more than a billion dollars in military related exports.
