Rotary Take-up - What it is and How it Works - Industrial Sewing Machine
In Stitches Sewing Machines & Overlockers
I have this Juki DDW-9A industrial plain sewing machine on the bench for service and it has an unusual rotary take-up mechanism.
Rotary take-ups were designed so that the take-up mechanism would cause less vibration, therefore less wear and more speed was achievable.
A take-up is a very important part of any sewing machine and provides exactly the right amount of slack in the system at exactly the right time. This allows enough slack in the top thread so it can make its way around the hook, to then be pulled up to create a tight stitch at just the right time.
I compare the rotary system with the more traditional linear system.
