From code to connected device: building and maintaining embedded Linux distributions
IT-S NOW!24
“What is this Yocto? Why is everybody using it? And do I maintain a real product with it?” These are all frequently asked questions when the conversation concerns embedded Linux in general, and the Yocto Project more specifically. In this talk, we will start by taking a look at things so you understand just how ubiquitous embedded Linux is these days, and why Yocto has emerged as a de facto standard for building Linux distributions. From there we proceed to the requirements of such use cases as - Maintenance time scale - License compliance - Reproducibility - Software deployments / OTA Of particular importance to note here is that these requirements often need to be handled in Yocto in a way that is vastly different from general purpose Linux distributions! Based on this, we will look at the features and techniques which the Yocto Project offers to cover these demands, and how they are best harnessed to create embedded Linux products on a large, industrial scale deployment, teaming up with Mender as a robust OTA and device management solution. https://its-now.science
