What Does It Take to Make a Car Secure?

While modern vehicles are increasingly equipped with features, aiming at providing more and more comfort for the vehicle operator, cybersecurity has not always been sufficiently considered. After researchers have impactfully shown to which extent cars can be affected by Cybersecurity attacks, car manufacturers are now legally obliged to demonstrate that cybersecurity has been considered in the development process of the car. This requirement lead to a drastic increase of the importance of cybersecurity for car manufacturers, and also the amount of resources required to adequately deal with cybersecurity - to an extent that even caused big car manufacturers to discontinue popular car models. In this talk, we will look at the different steps that are performed in order to make cars secure against cyber attacks - from an initial analysis of potential risks and the implementation of security measures to monitoring and supporting the car's security during its regular operation and ultimately its controlled decommissioning. https://its-now.science
