-----📋VIDEO OVERVIEW📋---- Trovo had a bit of a wild start. From the underdog of mobile game streaming, to now an internationally known streaming platform that a lot of people around the world push to join. So many people choose to stream to Trovo over Twitch, YouTube and other small streaming platforms like Glimesh, and you might be wondering why. Trovo has something no other platform has, an easy (enough) to reach partner program called the Trovo 500. There’s been a lot of good, and a great deal of ugly surrounding this, so lets dive in. To give context, I was a Trovo500 streamer from January until March of 2021 when I decided to vacate the streaming service over one particular thing.. Treasure boxes. Trovo introduced a feature called Treasure boxes to help their streamers give away free elixir (which is Trovos version of Twitchs “bits”) to viewers, which sounds great on paper. It’s nice to give back to your community that provides you an audience. Where Trovo went wrong however is that you could choose certain “goals” the viewer should reach in order to enter the draw to possibly win some free elixir. The goal in particular - “amount of time watched” basically means that you could tell your audience they need to watch you for an hour for a chance to win some elixir, which sounds fair on the surface, but not when you’re fighting for your Trovo 500 slot. Trovo 500 is basically a partnership program that rewards streamers on the amount of hours viewed within a month. If you’re in a certain tier (usually the minimum is about 900 watch hours in a month) this means you can pay your viewers to ensure you reach that goal, in tern basically making the platform Pay to Win. Anyone doing a treasure box is promoted inside the “treasure box” category on the site, and instantly gains hundreds of active views, depending on how much they were giving away. I ran an experiment a few months back where I did a giveaway with nothing on my stream for an hour, and averaged 100+ views. Not one person spoke in chat, just came in, followed, and left the tab open for an hour to win. In light of this, Trovo and Tencent were facing some serious pushback from the community, and still are frankly. To attempt to fight this, they changed how boxes worked, and created two different treasure box types, “Community chests” and “discoverability chests.” You can use “community chests” and they can still set a amount of minutes / hours watched in order to enter, and don’t get promoted, while discoverability chests you can’t set a time, but you get promoted for run ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJMtlyIBbAo
