What is Reality and does it matter?
History, Myths & Legends
What is reality? What set of characteristics define what reality actually is? Do we know the answers to this questions? Because if, as I presume, we do not, just saying that our environment isn’t real is, I’m afraid to say, not enough. However, lets for a while consider our reality as real, for it sure fells real, illusion as it may be, it is real to our senses, at least to those directly connected to the physicality of this existence. In fact, those of our senses that are of spiritual nature, appear to otherwise be connected with a different reality that is sometimes capable of interact directly with the physical one. However, the duality created by the existence of physical and ethereal might very well be the two sides of the coin. Thus completing one another, instead of being realities apart.
Our environment is ruled by electro magnetic forces that give and maintain shape and form to our world, from inanimate to animate, from macro, to micro scale those rules apply to all. Our physical perceptions come from the interaction of these electromagnetic fields. Since we can never actually touch anything else, nor even ourselves, all we experience, comes for the ability our body has to translate those electromagnetic signals as feelings, as sensations. Since it all comes down to information, and its decoding, it is logical so see it all as a computer simulation of some sort. But am I not right to think that the “Real Reality” is equally to be ruled by the same forces? So how do we tell one from the other?
As of now, we can’t. Beyond that, we have also other realities, lets look at the Shaman life, it happens between two realities, the one that everyone experiences, and the Spirits World. To them, there is no question about what is real, everything that can be experienced is real.
We also have the Dream world, are our dreams real? But then again, we return to the definition of real, that to me is, everything we experience from any of our senses. When we dream, to the very point of waking at, everything seems real, even when we might be violating some laws of physic. So to deny the realm of dreams on the account of its non-existence on the wake reality, is a complete misinterpretation of reality, since it denies the possibility of other realities beyond the physical one, that many are calling fake any way.
I say, this is a problem that should be talked about, and philosophically discussed, however, delving in too deep, or to long, is not productive for the development neither of the individual, nor of the society. Virtual or not, this reality has more experiences and lessons to give than even an immortal one can ever have, and as profound and meaningful as anyone desires. A simple walk through a small forest, or by a creek, can demonstrate my point, as it can be both physically rich and spiritually fulfilling as an experience for both the senses and for the Real-Self, this being the Soul.
