When you leave Jihād, disgrace will prevail. Jihād under the pure banner of Tawhīd, to raise the Word of Allāh [ سبحانه وتعا to be] the most high — which entails protecting Muslim lives, their honor, and their lands.

Ibn Hajar رحمه الله تعاmentioned that among the major sins is leaving Jihād, and he gave 3 examples/scenarios. He said: It’s like when Jihād becomes obligatory. How so? He said like when invaders invade Muslim lands. Or, he said, it’s when a Muslim captive is being taken and Muslims are able to go and free him. Or, he said, when people leave Jihād entirely.
