MONARK REVIEW - Rough Around The Edges

Monark is the latest JRPG from NIS America to be release for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via steam. Developed by ex Shin Megami Tensei members this tactical turn based RPG seeks to bring a modern spin to the tactical RPG genre. Though it is a rather rough experience; I can see Monark becoming a hidden gem on the merits of its story alone. I look forward to seeing how a sequel or spiritual successor could iron out the edges and make a solid JRPG experience. During a time when so many RPGs use the social mechanics of the Persona Series. It is nice to see a game that uses the high school setting and omits the ever popular social mechanics for something different while borrowing elements of the old school SMT games of the past. Monark is available on February 22, 2022.
