Gadget Reboot
The MFRC522 RFID reader module is available at low cost and allows easy experimenting with MIFARE RFID tags and cards.
Here's an overview of how RFID works, a demonstration of reading and writing data in the 1K MIFARE EEPROM sectors/blocks, and a sample project incorporating an RFID access control system that can be used as the basis for a door lock etc.
