Imagine you're the leader of a country whose people have been nomads for millennia, then decided to sort of settle, then immediately got incorporated into Russia, then 40% of them perished even before figuring out what is Russia and then the survivors spent 70 years as a union republic of the USSR.

What do you do first after achieving independence?

Don't answer that. You've already been thrown out of power by the people because you sucked. Doesn't matter how. In a democracy, the people are always right. And if you insist on disagreeing, you may not like the result.

Some of your successors try to disagree with the people and, as a result, they now live in Belarus or Russia in permanent exile.

That's the shortest version of modern Kyrgyz history for you.
