Anxiety over fertility is once again fashionable.

This isn't the first time. It was fashionable in the 1920s and the 1970s as well. Each time for mostly wrong reasons, just like today.

But what's different today is that the discussion is no longer just among those who at the very least know the basics of what they're talking about - but rather among everyone.

What's worse is that lack of basic knowledge is coupled with ideological possession which results in very bad anti-historical and routinely anti-human takes which are then taken as gospel by too many who don't know better.

In the end, the whole conversation is polluted even more and the topic becomes impossible to discuss.

Demographics is also not a left-right issue. Except for extremist cultures like South Korea, or the United Kingdom or the United States.

There are very sound left-wing and right-wing arguments both in favor natalism and in favor of anti-natalism. Anyone who doesn't acknowledge that right off the bat is either ignorant or has something to sell to you - be it an ideology, a lifestyle, a product or a specific policy prescription.

Demographics is a biology and mood issue. The national mood of a country determines that country's demographic trends a lot more than nearly all other factors.

The problem is that this reality doesn't sit well with most ideological groups and, as such, it is routinely ignored in favor of less relevant facets of the discussion.
