Here's a quick video on how to measure the loudness of your track in RMS and how to find out the loudness of certain tracks that you like, so you can then try to match it.

Step #1 - Download & Install the Voxengo SPAN Free Plugin from this link: http://www.voxengo.com/product/span/

Step #2 - Add the plugin on the Master Channel, at the end of your Mastering Chain

Step #3 - Look at the RMS Number below the graph

Step #4 - Open a PRO track from a Big Label (in the same genre as yours) in another channel, add the plugin to see their RMS

Step #5 - If loudness is important to you, try to get as close as possible to that reference track.

The standard in EDM is around -8 to -10 RMS (in the Drop part).

Just don't squash the dynamics too much!

It's better to have a high quality song with good dynamics at -12 RMS than a poor sounding track at -8 RMS.
