Shadow Of The Erdtree Inverts This Dark Souls 2 Mechanic

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC brings a new leveling feature to the game. Shadow Realm Blessings like Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes let you buff yourself beyond the base game’s cap, which means you can take on the harder challenges found in the expansion.

To me, this feels like the inverse of Dark Souls 2’s Bonfire Ascetic. That item could be used to raise the challenge level of the world around you. Respawned enemies and bosses would assume their New Game Plus stats, giving you a chance to fight them again at a higher difficulty.

Both of these games are easy to get your hands on. Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition are both available on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox consoles.
