How to Weld on Flange Backing Plates for Trailer or Caravan Axle
FixTechStuff
This video explains how I welded on the flange in the correct position when replacing or installing new brakes on a caravan or trailer axle.
Note: I am no expert, this is just what I figured out on my own. Talk to an actual trailer builder or welder to be sure.
Buy any axles or hubs from your local trailer place, or online if you don't have access to one: https://www.sunrisetrailerspares.com.au eBay.com: https://ebay.us/RZMBHJ eBay Australia: https://ebay.us/KOPiKI
Things left out of the video: You will need to measure your wheel offset (inside and outside), also the distance between the inner guards and outer guards when choosing your axle, trailer place will help you with this. There is a left and right side brake backing plate, this is important even if you don't have a handbrake lever. If you aren't a good welder, you should leave it to the experts. It isn't just your life that is in danger if your welds break.
