We Need To Think Faster Than We Shoot
Rich Graham
Our time on the range should be fun and challenging, but far to often we dismiss missed shots or even worse, wrong target engagements. If we put context behind the actuality of engaging the wrong target we realize that as it translates into a real life situation the level of that simple mistake is huge. We need to hold ourselves accountable for every shot and every decisions we make, even on a simple range day. This is laying the framework for how we preform under stress when it counts.
I run a course for Police and civilian shooter called Strategic Thinking Under Stress. It is a great course filled with challenges that add stress via time, physical, memory, communication, etc.. The training implements a wide variety of stressors, so each student can identify what types of stress challenge their performance the most, so they can recognize it and train to develop themselves in those areas. I recommend incorporating some of these types of drills into your training when you go to the range to challenge your ability to make decisions under stress and keep accurate shots down range.
If you don't know where to start, join us on the FSW University where I already have a series for this started and will be adding more videos to the library very soon!
