In this video, we will talk about LEFT Lookup in excel. By Default, The VLOOKUP function only looks to the right. To look up a value in any column and return the corresponding value to the left, simply use INDEX and MATCH. This is helpful when you need to get values from different columns or rows that are not adjacent on your worksheet!
We will use the combination of the INDEX & MATCH function in excel to find values on the left as we have described in the video. Let's see how INDEX MATCH works;
The INDEX function takes two arguments: the row number and the column number. The MATCH function, on the other hand, takes three arguments: lookup value, table array, and column index. So in our example below we are looking for the value "Apple" in Column A and returning the corresponding value from Column B which is "15".
An example of INDEX MATCH is below;
=INDEX(B:B,MATCH("Apple",A:A,0))
