Welcome to another episode of text functions and formulas, and in this video, We will discover how to remoive spaces and special characters in excel using various excel functions namely as follows.

You may have incurred data with loads of special characters or we can say unprintable characters which causes mess alongwith huge spaces in between your text data. Theres two way to deal with it, first is hard way , which is manually editing all the data which is quite efficient if you have low entries but becomes hard when you have loads of data entries and it becomes a headache and there comes second part, the smart way, to enter following functions like TRIM, CLEAN, SUBSTITUTE function to eliminate such characters and spaces in excel.

CLEAN SPACES IN EXCEL

For this, we will use two functions mainly which is TRIM Function and SUBSTITUTE Function. Lets checkout the TRIM Function;

=TRIM(text)

The TRIM function syntax has the following arguments:

Text - The text from which you want spaces removed.

Similarly, SUBSTITUTE Function ;

SUBSTITUTE(text, old_text, new_text, [instance_num])

Text - The text or the reference to a cell containing text for which you want to substitute characters.

Old_text - The text you want to replace.

New_text -The text you want to replace old_text with.

CLEAN CHARACTERS IN EXCEL

For this, we will take the help of CLEAN Function alongwith CODE to identify the character number and CHAR function to input in between functions like SUBSITUTE and TRIM.
