Welcome to our latest windmill innovation! In this video, we're excited to showcase how our PMDC motor/generator, paired with a DIY smart controller, is taking wind energy to the next level.
Overview: Traditional windmills have a cut-in speed of around 26 km/h, where they start spinning to generate power. But with our new controller, we're changing the game. By applying a small current to kick-start the blades, we overcome inertia and reduce the cut-in speed, unlocking more energy potential from even lower wind speeds.
Modes of Operation: This demonstration walks you through the various stages of our windmill's operation:
KickStart Mode: When the anemometer detects wind speeds of 14-16 km/hr, the controller kicks into action. It applies 6V at 0.5A to the motor, jump-starting the blades' rotation. This initial boost makes it easier for the wind to take over and keep the blades spinning.
Boost Phase: As the windmill is below around 11.5V output, the controller remains in a "Boost voltage" mode, adding 5 VDC. This maintains optimal performance while conserving energy. The windmill operates efficiently, generating power without unnecessary intervention.
Normal Operation: Once the windmill is spinning at a consistent rate, producing around 12V, the controller seamlessly cuts out the KickStart and Boost modes. The windmill operates normally, producing maximum power from the avai;able wind.
