I've always found that when it comes to radio alignments, nothing beats the precision of an analogue multimeter or VOM. The smooth needle deflection just works wonders, especially when fine-tuning peaking circuits—it's an art in itself. But here's the catch: sometimes, the voltages I'm working with are incredibly low. My go-to analogue meters, the Simpson 260 and Avometer 8, have their lowest ranges at 2.5V and 3V, respectively, which doesn't provide a good spread when working with signals as low as 100mV. Their input impedance at these lower voltage settings is also too low for the typically high impedance circuits I deal with. The meter ends up loading the circuit, making it impractical for accurate readings. That's where the idea struck me—to create a voltage booster or multiplier with a high input impedance, to act as a buffer between the circuit's test point and my trusty analogue VOM. So, what you're about to witness is the result of that objective. I'll be building and testing this project right here, and who knows, it might inspire you to create your own.
