#hongkonghdr #hongkongtour #hongkong4khdr #hongkongtour This is the start of our most ambitious trip we have ever taken. It’s the start of a 48 day journey through much of China and Japan. Michael and I are joined by one of our long time best friends’ Kevin who went to high school and college together. How often do you get to take one of your best friends along with you on a trip to Asia for over a month? After careful planning of the logistics including airfare, hotels, sightseeing, and other travel arrangements, we are excited of what’s ahead in China including Hong Kong, Macau, Cotai, and Shanghai. Then later we will go to cities in Japan including Tokyo, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Takayama, and Nagoya.
Why do so few people from LA visit China? Is it because of the 15 and a half hour flight? Luckily, we are taking Cathay Pacific which is consistently rated one of the best in service provided. Unlimited booze and generous meal offerings kept us happy the entire flight.
With this being our first trip to Asia, our knowledge of where to stay in Hong Kong was limited. Kevin requested that we stay in the times square of the city. In Hong Kong, Times square is not just a generic name for the city center. It's an actual location of the city that looks and feels like a copy of the Times Square in New York with their own western new years type celebrations.
This is where we were first introduced to the vertical malls in Asia. The one here in Hong Kong is considered the first of its kind. A Starbucks used to be conveniently located on the corner of the plaza, but due to controversy, it was later moved to the tenth floor of the mall. So it's very hard to get your cup of coffee when you need a caffeine fix here. Overall, there are better places to stay in Hong Kong than Times Square.
Mong Kok is one of the hipper and fun places to visit. It’s also incredibly crowded here. The Guiness Book of world records claims it is the busiest district in the world.
Langham Place Tower has an outstanding floor space of (180,000 sq ft), and rises to 59 stories tall for the office tower, a 15-level shopping centre with two basement levels, a 665-room hotel and a car park with 250 parking spaces.[5 The office tower is a (837 ft) skyscraper and was the tallest office building on the Kowloon peninsula when it launched. The Langham Place Office Tower is one of the ten tallest office buildings in Hong Kong when measured up to the highest architectural point, which is the dome. The tower's dome illuminates at night and changes colour slowly in a light show on weekends and holidays. The entire tower is covered in light-reflecting blue glass which is separated at two intervals by grey glass. It is the second "vertical mall" in Hong Kong.
