Insta360 One X: initial impressions of a 360 cam︱Cross Training Adventure

For a good quality action cam the two main choices were the Gopro Fusion or the Insta 360 One X. I settled on the Insta 360, and here's some footage from my first 10 minute filming session, so this isn't really an Insta360 One X review, just my initial impressions. The main thing that sold me on the Insta360 One X is the selfie stick is invisible. This was all shot in low light conditions and the footage is actually better than expected. Some comparison reviews said the Gopro does have better audio quality but all the extra features of the Insta 360 more than make up for that. What didn't I like about the Insta360 One X? The only thing that stood out was the wind noise through the microphone. I cured the same problem with my Sony action cam by simply putting a rubber band over the mike. I think the same fix with work well on the Insta 360 and I'll report back in a full review once I've fully tested the camera out. There are plenty of cool tricks possible with the Insta360 One X camera and I'll show you those in the full review too. Will the Insta360 One X suit everyone? Well I don't think it's a substitute for a normal action cam. But if you want to spice up your existing action cam footage with some cool angles and tricks, my first impressions are this could be just the thing. In most of this footage I am holding the stick in my left hand but some video wizardry hides it. And even when it's mounted on top of the helmet the stick is invisible. This, plus the 360 degree view, lets you achieve some great footage and strange angles, and can even act as a poor man's drone. I expected the 360 editing to be tricky, but the software is simple to use. And you can re edit the same footage to get different angles too.
