GIMP vs Inkscape! - Who says you can't use both? - One for Raster Graphics and one for Vector Graphics - GIMP 3.0 - Inkscape 1.4

It doesn't have to be GIMP vs Inkscape, because the two software programs compliment each other. People are always comparing GIMP to Photoshop, and saying how terrible GIMP is. However, if you combine GIMP with Inkscape then you get great vector graphics tools (SVG editor) with Inkscape plus all the cool raster graphics tools (bitmap editor) you get with GIMP.
WHAT IS GIMP? GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, macOS, Windows and more operating systems. It is free software, you can change its source code and distribute your changes.
WHAT IS INKSCAPE? Inkscape is a Free and open source vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows and macOS. It offers a rich set of features and is widely used for both artistic and technical illustrations such as cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming and flowcharting. It uses vector graphics to allow for sharp printouts and renderings at unlimited resolution and is not bound to a fixed number of pixels like raster graphics. Inkscape uses the standardized SVG file format as its main format, which is supported by many other applications including web browsers.
And not to mention, there's another free Linux graphics package called Krita that gives low income computer artists a chance to create without breaking their bank account. Krita even does animation. And then there is Blender which gives you awesome 3D modeling capabilities.
WHAT IS KRITA? Krita is a free and open-source raster graphics editor designed primarily for digital art and 2D animation. Originally created for Linux, the software also runs on Windows, macOS, Haiku, Android, and ChromeOS, and features an OpenGL-accelerated canvas, colour management support, an advanced brush engine, non-destructive layers and masks, group-based layer management, vector artwork support, and switchable customisation profiles.
WHAT IS SVG? SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics and it is an XML-based vector image format for defining two-dimensional graphics, having support for interactivity and animation. The SVG specification is an open standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium since 1999.
The main reason I still use GIMP is that it is light weight and allows me to do quick edits on my photos and Blender renders. Version 3.0 of GIMP seems really snappy and quick. GIMP is a great tool for certain graphics needs.
But if I want to add any text to my photos, I'll use Inkscape instead. Inkscape allows you to resize and fit your text anyway you want it.
The point of this article is to start with GIMP and Inkscape. Then go to Krita if you need more 2D art capabilities. And then go to Blender if you want explore the world of 3D and even more 2D tools.
