RustDesk on Rasbperry Pi 4
Code Fallacy
Hey guys here is a quick video on RustDesk running on Raspberry Pi 4. RustDesk is a completely free and open source Remote Desktop Software Solution. It is an alternative (and should be considered a total replacement) for TeamViewer. It is easy to install and connect to remote Desktops. I've been using RustDesk for the last month or so on my Linux Computer (fedora 36 with waylan disabled), Macbook, Windows, and IpadOS. It has been very stable and i have left the connection up for weeks at a time.
There are 3 Major issues with RustDesk right now:
- It does not support Wayland only Xorg display server on Linux systems
- it does not support ARM64 bit systems, only 32bits but a rewrite is comming that will support it soon.
- You need to have an HDMI out connected in order for it to work with the respberry pi. You may be able to get around it with a virtual desktop but i have not tried it.
RustDesk gives you the option to Self Host a relay server using Docker if the free community server is too slow. According the github readme, the relay servers are in:
- Seoul
- Germany
- Singapore
Given that im in North America, a self-hosted solution will be much faster just based on proximity and i may (or may not) make a follow up video about it.
