A good way to load pages faster is to disable images from loading in your browser which you can easily do in Firefox, Chrome, and other browsers. I'll demonstrate the difference between page loading on a bad connection with an without images and then show you the solution on how to disable images.

Firefox: look for permissions.default.image in about:config and set it to 2
Chrome: go to settings, expand to advanced settings, find content settings under privacy, and disable all images from loading.
