Hypoxia in the Cockpit: Test Flight With an Oxygen Concentrator In My Airplane
Canard Boulevard
Flying at higher altitudes has many benefits: better fuel economy, faster speeds, and the ability to fly over top of weather and clouds. However, there is one big downside: the air is too thin to breathe, leading to hypoxia, which has caused some high-profile aircraft tragedies. In this video I talk about hypoxia, how it affects you, and options for oxygen supplementation in aircraft to avoid hypoxia. Then I take an OxyGo Next Oxygen Concentrator (what the FAA calls a "molecular sieve oxygen generator") up in my airplane and test its ability at preventing hypoxia at altitudes up to 18,000 feet.
