In this video we will understand what speciation is and how new species emerge. Imagine a thriving ecosystem filled with various species, each adapted to its unique environment. But how do new species come into existence? That's where speciation comes in! Speciation is the process by which populations evolve to become distinct species. It's like nature's way of creating biodiversity." There are a few key factors driving speciation: isolation, genetic variation, and natural selection. (Animated diagram of geographic isolation) "Geographic isolation is one common way. Imagine a river forming, splitting a population into two groups that can no longer interbreed." With time, genetic variations accumulate within each isolated group. This can be due to mutations, genetic drift, or other factors. Natural selection then comes into play. Traits that enhance survival and reproduction become more prevalent in each group. As isolated populations adapt to their specific environments, they may develop reproductive barriers. In a nutshell, speciation is the engine of biodiversity. It's nature's way of constantly experimenting and adapting to the ever-changing environment." "And there you have it – a brief journey into the world of speciation. If you found this video interesting, don't forget to like and subscribe for more! Thanks for watching
